ShipSafe

About ShipSafe

A free, no-signup check for the accessibility and privacy gaps that get websites demand letters — built for the wave of AI-generated and no-code sites.

Why it exists

AI builders and no-code tools made it genuinely easy to ship a professional-looking site in an afternoon. That's worth celebrating. But speed and compliance are different things, and most of these tools are optimized for the former.

The result is a predictable set of gaps: no lang attribute, images without alt text, unlabeled form fields, no privacy policy. These are the exact issues that automated ADA filers scan for — and they resulted in more than 4,600 website lawsuits in 2024 alone. The filings are often from the same small group of serial plaintiffs using the same scanning scripts looking for the same handful of missing attributes.

Most accessibility tools are built for developers and speak in audit codes. ShipSafe is built for the person who shipped the site and doesn't have a compliance background: here is your risk level, here is what to fix, here is why it matters — in plain English, in under 10 seconds.

Your privacy

The scan runs in your browser. ShipSafe fetches the target page through a public CORS proxy and analyzes the HTML client-side. We do not store your URL, log your scans, or track you across sessions. There is no account. The scan leaves no trace on our end.

The only network requests are: the fonts from Google Fonts (loaded once per browser, standard), and the CORS proxy fetches to read the URL you submitted. That proxy is a public service; its terms apply to it, not to ShipSafe.

Who's behind it

ShipSafe is a product of Copper Bay Labs, the independent product studio of Copper Bay Tech. Copper Bay Tech is a Sonoma County web, IT, and security shop that has built, audited, and remediated sites for small and mid-size businesses since 2020. ShipSafe is the free, self-serve version of work we already do by hand.

The studio model means ShipSafe is a real product with real ongoing development — not a weekend project that ships and stops. The planned Pro tier (a rendered-DOM scan, scheduled re-checks, and PDF reports) requires a serverless deployment, but the free check runs entirely in your browser and will stay free.

Need more than a smoke test? Copper Bay Tech does full accessibility audits, remediation, and ongoing monitoring for businesses that need a documented compliance record. Talk to us about a full audit →

Limitations

The free check reads your page's static HTML source — what the server returns before JavaScript runs. That is useful and catches a lot of real issues, but there are things it cannot see:

A rendered-DOM scan — using a headless browser to analyze the page as a user would actually see it — is in development as the planned Pro tier. It will catch contrast, dynamic content, and JavaScript-built structure that the free check cannot reach.

The fine print

ShipSafe provides automated, heuristic guidance. It is not legal advice. It is not a certified WCAG conformance audit. It is not a guarantee of compliance or protection from legal action. For a binding determination, consult a qualified professional. See the methodology page for the exact checks run and their known limitations.
